Free home insulation grants

Get in quickly before the deadline!

UK homeowners and private tenants can still apply for free grants to cover the full cost of both Cavity Wall Insulation and Loft Insulation, but you don’t have much time left since some companies are closing bookings for the work to be carried out.

The current Insulation Grant scheme is ending in December 2012 and a new scheme will be launched in 2013 with the majority of households will not being able to qualify. The majority of homeowners and private tenants will need to apply for Green Deal loans which are not due to start until late January 2013.

Full Home Insulation Grants are still available in most areas of the UK. They are also available to private households where anyone is aged 70 or above, or in receipt of certain benefits, tax credits, or allowances. All other homeowners and private tenants will still qualify for an Insulation Grant of up to 70% of the cost.

  • Available for those 70+ or in receipt of a qualifying benefits

Where does Free Insulation Grant funding come from?

The free insulation grants are part of the Government’s Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT). CERT obliges major utility companies – Npower, British Gas, EDF, E.ON, Scottish Power, and Scottish & Southern Energy – to meet targets to reduce carbon emissions by paying for insulation in domestic properties.

Why bother insulating your property?

Cavity Wall Insulation and Loft Insulation remain the two most effective energy efficiency measures available for your property. A poorly insulated property can lose up to 60% of its heat

A well insulated property will:

  • Save up to £175 per year by fitting loft insulation and reduces carbon emissions by up to 800kg.
  • Save up to £135 per year with cavity wall Insulation and cuts CO2 emissions by up to 610kg.
  • Save over £300 per year and 1.4 tonnes of carbon.

Five main reasons to insulate your home

1. Save money
Loft Insulation and Cavity Wall Insulation are the most effective energy efficiency measures you can install in your home. Your home will retain heat better, meaning that your heating can be turned on less often and for shorter periods, resulting in large energy bill savings. Installing home insulation could save you up to £300 per year.

2. Comfort
Loft Insulation and Cavity Wall Insulation will make your home warmer during the Winter months. It is also a little known fact that Home Insulation will help to keep your home cooler during the warmer Summer months.

3. Help the environment
A property that is not adequately insulated will lose heat through its loft and walls, and will burn more fossil fuels to compensate. Burning fossil fuels allows Carbon Dioxide (CO2) to escape into the atmosphere and contributes to global warming. A home with Loft Insulation and Cavity Wall Insulation will better retain heat, burn less fossil fuels and subsequently will help to protect the environment.

4. Prevent condensation
Condensation occurs when water vapour in the air comes into contact with surfaces that are cooler than the vapour itself. Loft and Cavity Wall insulation can help prevent condensation as the interior surface of walls and ceilings will be warmer.

5. Increase your property value
Loft Insulation and Cavity Wall Insulation are considered to be home improvements and if your property already has been insulated then this will add to value.
