Figuring out what output you need to heat your room
You will have noticed that stoves have a stated output value, so how do you work out what output you need for your bungalow or mansion?
To find out what heat output is the best match for your room, simply measure the length and width of your room, multiply the two together to get the area.
<25m2 | 5kw |
25m2-30m2 | 6.5kw |
30m2-35m2 | 7.5kw |
35m2-40m2 | 8.5kw |
>45m2 | 10kw+ |
NB: The above results are an estimate based on a 3 metre floor height. You also need to take other considerations into account shuch as the amount of windows and features such as stairwells etc.
Great summary. I’ve just built a penny-stove and super-cat. Had to get a sodelir to get a keg can for me from the base here…I think I’m going to stick with the homemade stuff, after reading that Andrew Skurka uses a cat stove, I figure they’re legit. Which do you like best?Have made any of your own wood burning stoves? That’s my next project, I think I’ll need to buy a small drill first though…more tools!
